Llama Experience for Special Needs Groups
Catanger Llamas can offer a unique llama experience for special needs groups and carers. This experience is suitable for everyone, from the age of 5 years to 85 years. Llamas are gentle and peaceful creatures, perfect for animal therapy. We have full disabled access and even for those who are not able to do a little trek we will still make sure they get a hands on experience with the animals.
We start in the visitors centre with lots of llama fun facts and then go out to the barns to meet some of our trekking boys and our alpacas; Super Duper, Hitch and Tiny Ted. You will have the chance to pet them and learn even more about these incredible animals followed by an optional 20-30 minute mini trek through our woodland with the llamas (Longer treks are also available). After this we will take you to visit the mothers and crias (baby llamas), Dasher the donkey and our ponies Feather and Flosi.
What is included:
- Llama information and instruction
- Mini trek
- Visit the mothers and babies
- Touching sessions
We also do group treks for carers and young carers, a perfect activity to do with their time out. Please contact us for more details.
As a group of young disabled adults and their carers, we arrived not knowing what to expect. We were met by Sarah, who made us very welcome. We were given a short introduction into the history and television exploits of her “boys and girls”, followed by a demonstration on leading the llamas.
The route chosen was appropriate to our groups disabilities. The llamas were very calm and gentle with the lads, and were not phased when one had a seizure. Another of our group who did not like animals, wouldn’t come home because he couldn’t bring his llama too!!.
We ALL had a great time and really enjoyed the day, and intend to visit again. It took me hours to stop grinning!
Our residents have a weekly visit to Catanger Llamas which is situated in the Tove Valley and provides high class facilities for young people with learning difficulties. Excellent out of the classroom experiences, linked in with curriculum projects and with very good class room facilities.
